Understanding a request for EU REACH SVHC information
For non-standard fasteners exported to the EU, quality systems and environmental compliance are both non-negotiable.
Kinsom Fasteners (Shanghai Kinsom Precision Hardware Co.,Ltd) is pleased to announce that its manufacturing partner Kunshan Samhotak Hardware Product Co., Ltd. has completed REACH SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) testing. The testing was commissioned by Kinsom Fasteners and carried out by SGS, with Kunshan Samhotak named as the manufacturer of record on the formal SGS report. In parallel, the factory holds an IATF 16949 automotive quality management system certificate audited and issued by TÜV, verifiable in the official IATF database. Together, these credentials mean that fasteners produced by Samhotak — including stainless steel screws, high-strength bolts, locating pins, rivets, and precision shafts — now carry third-party-verified documentation on both quality system and environmental compliance. This enables Kinsom Fasteners to provide customers exporting to the EU, or with environmental compliance requirements, a complete supplier qualification package.
What Does REACH SVHC Mean for Fasteners?
REACH is the EU regulation on the registration, evaluation, authorisation, and restriction of chemicals. SVHC stands for "Substances of Very High Concern" — chemicals with carcinogenic, mutagenic, reproductive-toxic, or persistent bioaccumulative properties. As of 4 February 2026, ECHA has updated the SVHC candidate list to 253 entries, adding n-hexane (CAS 110-54-3, specific target organ toxicity following repeated exposure) and bisphenol AF (BPAF) and its salts (reproductive toxicity).
For fastener products, the core REACH obligation is this: if any SVHC is present above 0.1% by weight, the supplier must provide sufficient information to the customer to ensure safe use; if annual exports exceed one tonne, notification to ECHA and SCIP database submission are also required. Risk points for fasteners are not limited to the base material itself — plating, passivation, anti-rust oils, processing aid residues, and lead additions in free-machining steel can all be sources of SVHC exceedance.
Which Markets and Customers Need This Report?
Fastener products exported directly to the EU are the primary demand drivers. In addition, OEM/ODM manufacturers producing for EU brands, customers in the automotive parts supply chain requiring PPAP documentation, and hardware buyers supplying the electrical and electronic equipment sector all treat SVHC reports as a mandatory supplier qualification requirement. For custom non-standard fasteners, customers also need to confirm that custom materials and surface treatments do not introduce new restricted substances. An SGS-issued SVHC report covering actual shipped products is far more persuasive than a manufacturer's self-declaration.
How We do?
Samhotak has integrated SVHC compliance into its standard pre-shipment process: products in stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy steel, with surface treatments including zinc plating, zinc-nickel alloy, blackening, and passivation, are submitted to SGS for REACH SVHC screening. The product covered by this test report is made of 304 stainless steel (SUS304 / 06Cr19Ni10 / AISI 304 / 1.4301) with zinc-nickel black surface treatment. The factory's IATF 16949 certificate, audited and issued by TÜV, covers automotive supply chain quality management system requirements and, together with the SVHC report, forms a dual assurance of "quality system + environmental compliance." When customers place orders for fasteners with Samhotak through Kinsom exported, they receive not only products that meet dimensional and strength specifications, but also a complete compliance documentation package that stands up to EU customer audits.
Appendix: REACH SVHC Candidate List (as of February 2026, 253 Entries) — Where to Verify
Given the large number of SVHC entries and the list's twice-yearly updates, the complete 253-substance list should be verified through the following official channel:
ECHA Official Candidate List Database: https://echa.europa.eu/candidate-list-table (updated in real time, the most authoritative source)
The substance scope covered by the Xianghongtai SGS test report is based on the valid list published by ECHA at the time the report was issued. Customers are welcome to request a copy of the report and verify specific substance entries.
For buyers currently screening suppliers, a REACH SVHC report and an IATF 16949 certificate are not "nice-to-have" decorations — they are baseline indicators of whether a fastener factory is equipped to serve export markets. Kinsom Fasteners welcomes customers to request and verify the SGS report and the TÜV-audited IATF certificate at any time. For fastener inquiries, please contact our sales department.
